![]() Since embarking, in 1999, on a strategy of matching the strengths of its business with the needs of the market on a worldwide basis, Corus Tubes Energy Business has secured orders throughout the world. One particular area of success has been the Asian market. As the Energy Business continues to work with the clients in the region to understand and satisfy their needs, success has come early; already there have been notable successes in the region including three pipeline orders taken in the last year in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. In Malaysia, the National Oil and Gas company, Petronas has been supplied with 50km of High Frequency Induction (HFI) pipeline to replace a failed pipeline in Malaysian waters. Petronas were losing vast amounts in revenue for each day the pipeline was not producing. The material was supplied from the Hartlepool 20” pipe mill in less than ten weeks, significantly ahead of schedule. In Indonesia the French oil major, Total, is being supplied with a Submerged Arc Welded pipeline to take gas from the offshore fields to the largest Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) liquefaction plant in the world at Bontang on Kalimantan Island. The most difficult sour specification was applied to the pipelines. This is the second gas pipeline that Total has installed to take gas to the Bontang plan – both supplied by the Energy Business which has also recently completed a major project in China for China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). With these successes and the potential future growth in the market the name of Corus is becoming associated with the supply of quality, high specification pipelines. As the oil and gas industry within the region strives to meet the high levels of demand by establishing increasingly difficult pipeline projects, trust and confidence has become a key driver for success. In this respect a key factor for the Energy Business in accessing the region is its partnership with, on a local level, from the Corus International.
