New office taps Kazakhstan's oil and gas business
16 Nov 2005
With many international companies as neighbours Corus International has set up its new office in Kazakhstan at Atyrau. One of six planned openings in 2005, covering Brazil, Russia, Hungary and Abu Dhabi, the Kazakhstan facility is the latest in a rapidly expanding network of global operations that now embraces 48 countries. Corus International’s presence in the Republic is as much a natural response to the modern magnet of oil and gas as it was to spice, silk and sandalwood by the merchant venturers of old in other far flung regions. Reaching from the Caspian Sea to China and from Siberia to the Tian Shan Mountains, Kazakhstan is nine times the size of France and is roughly half the size of mainland USA. It is the least populated area in Central Asia and, potentially, the most mineral rich.
Known as Kazakhstan’s “oil capital”, Atyrau offers easy access to oil and gas fields in the west of the country for newly appointed Regional Manager, Aman Tulepov. Concentrating on offshore projects and tubes and pipe for this most developed sector, in particular, the team will also be looking at opportunities in rail and power generation.
To announce Corus International’s arrival in Kazakhstan and to prepare the way for the new office, members from Corus International in the UK took the opportunity to man the Corus International stand at the North Caspian Regional Oil and Gas Show held at Atyrau in April.
Encouragingly for the new office, the team report that the exhibition was well attended and all of the key players from both the oil and gas markets visited the stand where they spent time learning about Corus International’s capabilities and track record and browsing through the information provided. Literally hundreds of brochures were handed out and since then a steady flow of enquiries has been received. Contact has already been established with key people in the target markets.
