Steels for turbine blades

The efficient running of modern turbines relies upon advanced steels which can withstand the high temperatures and corrosive environment for many thousands of hours. Our steels ensure the turbine blades can tolerate these harsh conditions day-in day-out, leading to increased outputs and reduced maintenance.

Corus steels are used for fixed and moving blades in high, intermediate and low pressure steam turbines units and for compressor blades on gas turbines. The high temperatures and fast rotating speeds involved requires the steel to have good resistance to oxidation, fatigue and stress rupture.

Steel grades

Corus steels suitable for turbine blades fall into the following categories:

  • Martensitic stainless
  • Precipitation hardening (PH) stainless

Product forms

  • Billet and annealed billet for forging and re-rolling
  • Slab for machining and foging
  • Wide slabs for splitting to rhomboids

Value adding services

  • Heat treatment (annealing/hardening & tempering)
  • Turning
  • Grinding
